What people I have worked with say

Peter McCleery

Peter McCleery

CEO at GetSociable

Jan worked on our GetSociable App by taking requirements and implementing them fully to scope. He was very diligent in his work, seeking clarity where required and able to communicate progress and any blockers. He had a flair for UI/UX and also equally adept at backend functionality. He worked well with the team and surpassed all our expectations.

Projects

Some of my projects

Not in chronological order

I Hate Mailto

2026

A lightweight browser add-on that stops mailto:, tel: and sms: links from launching apps you don't want, and copies their details to your clipboard instead.

I got tired of mailto: links opening an email client I never use, so I built I Hate Mailto, my first browser extension. It intercepts mailto:, tel: and sms: clicks and copies the details to your clipboard instead, with a clear toast confirming what happened. Toast colors, position and duration are customizable, and you can turn it off on specific sites. Built with WXT and TypeScript.

Guess The Word

2022

A fun project I built with a classmate, and a great way to learn about real-time communication and game development.

A deliberately simple Skribbl.io clone I built in 2022 with a classmate. One player draws a word and everyone else tries to guess it. It's written in vanilla HTML/CSS/JS on top of Node.js and Socket.IO, which handles the real-time communication between players.

Movie Survey

2024

My Business IT exam project, where I showcased my skills in mobile app development and real-time communication.

Movie Survey is a React Native app that helps a group pick a movie democratically. Users vote on a selection of films, the app generates a ranking, and it can run new rounds of voting based on previous results. It uses WebSockets for real-time communication and MongoDB for data storage, and works on both Android and iOS.

Phatris

2022

My first official school project, and where I learned the ropes of game development and Phaser 3.

Phatris is a Tetris clone I built in 2022 with a classmate, with several game modes to choose from. It runs on the Phaser 3 framework, is played with the keyboard, and shows a scoreboard stored in a MongoDB database.

Clean Progress Tracker

2024

A project from my Business IT studies, where I showed what I can do in mobile app development and data management.

A React Native mobile app that helps people track their progress in overcoming addictions. Users can create time counters, add notes, and reset them after a relapse. Data is handled by a MongoDB backend with an Express REST API, keeping user profiles and data private.

WorkoutTracker

2023

My first dive into mobile app development, and where I learned React Native and Expo.

A mobile workout-tracking app I built with two other students from my year, and my first time using React Native with Expo. Data is handled by a MongoDB backend with an Express REST API, which manages user profiles and data.

Bitmap Manipulator

2022

Built while I was learning Java. It taught me a lot about the bitmap format and how to manipulate images byte by byte.

A Java command-line tool that reads bitmap images at the byte level, with no libraries involved. You can apply filters, change colors and edit individual pixels, or turn an image into ASCII art using custom characters.

Database Comparison

2024

A project from my Business IT studies, where I put my skills in database design and management, API development and comparative analysis to work.

An analysis built around two equivalent web APIs: one backed by a relational database (MySQL), the other by a document database (MongoDB). Both support CRUD operations on a sample dataset, so I could compare the two in terms of execution speed and scalability.
